George Tallman Sr. ALTONA — George Orville Tallman Sr., 78, of Altona passed away Monday, March 17, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center surrounded by his family following his struggle with cancer. He was born in Champlain on Dec. 8, 1924, the son of Victoria and James Tallman. He married the late Doris Helen (Laforest) Tallman on July 13, 1946. They were married for 46 years until her death in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and attained the rank of Sergeant. George was a loving son, brother, father and uncle. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and he was a master woodworker. George worked as a frog farmer, miner, restaurateur, entrepreneur and then a stationary engineer until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1418. He was a truck-bank and coin collector. He always loved a good joke. He will be very much missed by his family and friends. George is survived by one sister, Mabel Demers of Champlain; one son and daughter-in-law, George and Donna Tallman Jr. of Delanson; six daughters and five sons-in-law, Deborah and Reginald Mesec of West Chazy, Elaine (Sue) Tallman of Plattsburgh, Crystal and Richard Carter of Plattsburgh, Pamela and Mark Cayea of Lyon Mountain, Joan and Mark Brown of West Chazy and Melissa and Brian LaRock of Altona; 16 grandchildren and two grandchildren-in-law; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Alpha St. Andrew and Permelia Forrett; two brothers, Leonard and Norman Tallman; two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 19, 2003, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks. Interment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 1418 of Mooers.
