Subject: World War I Query From: Cheryl Crowder Date: June 20, 1999 This is a very embarrassing question for me to ask...it shows my lack of education (I guess I could blame the public school system) or it shows my young age, BUT, when the U.S. was in WW I, how extensive was the volunteer or draft? In other words, was it common or uncommon for our young men of draft age to have participated in WW I? I know that the war was fought from 1914-1918, so I assumed that my grandfather born in 1890 would have been in the war, but he wasn't and I don't know why. Is that unusual?
