I know there are quite a few WOOD researchers that are trying to find
ancestors and thought this might possibly be a clue. The letter just came
in today and the list is not yet completed in case you wish to contact the
person who found the cemetery.

> Have discovered a cemetery on back acreage of private property in Heard
> County, GA which contains graves of WOOD family. Cemetery is not
accessible
> to the public but the owner, who is a personal friend, would like me to
do a
> history of the property which was purchased back in the late 1950s-early
> 1960s. What piqued my interest is that my great-great aunt, NANCY BLAKE
WOOD
> is buried there. It was a quite a surprise to both my friend and me. They

have known of the existence of the cemetery for some time but had no idea
who
> the people were...much less, expected to find a relative. There are some
40
> graves, including several unmarked and one that has caved in. I jotted
down
> some of the information on the graves but time and daylight ran out. I am

going back sometime in the near future to do the whole cemetery.

> Just down the hill from the cemetery, there is a small meadow and the
remains
> of an old county road (now just ruts). We found the remains of a home
which
> could have belonged to a family member or maybe could have been a
> sharecropper's home as I understand from the owner that the land was
> sharecropped at one time. Two dirt mounds covered with pine straw on
either
> side of a flat area turned out to be mounds of bricks...apparently the
> remains of two chimneys on either end of the house. Stepping back a bit,
one
> could see large stones which appeard to be the foundation. It was an
exciting
> find for me and I am looking forward to going back when I can spend the
whole
> day. Here are the names on the graves I jotted down:
