Hi,
It will be good to let these folks have a genealogy chat to keep the mail
lists from becoming "chat rooms". I recently signed on to three mail lists
and they all turned out to be "chat rooms" with everyone answering each
query directly to the list rather than to the individual person. I
understand that many times information can be useful to a great number of
persons on the list and at that time perhaps it should be answered to the
list. But when the discussion continues for days and the digest is full of
20 - 30 messages just "chatting" back and forth, the list becomes useless
to people who are trying to seriously seek information. I have resigned
From all of the lists I am speaking of after deciding that rather than
"inflame" the "chatters" and risk getting "flamed" myself I would say
nothing and just write it off as a lost cause.

As another rooter said, "different strokes for different folks", would that
all lists could be as well run as ROOTS-L!!

Janet
