Subject: White/Villeneuve/Hurst/Moise/Ferrette(?)/Stoppelbein From: Cynthia H. Porcher Date: March 30, 1999 I am looking for several families with ties to Charleston, Cheraw, and Sumter, so perhaps some of you out there can give me a hand. WHITE/VILLENEUVE Keziah Jane (maiden name unknown) b ca 1810 married Mr. WHITE from Sumter. They had a daughter named Sarah Jane who married Joseph Henry VILLENEUVE from Charleston. In the 1850 census, Joseph and Sarah Jane were living in St James Parish, Mt Holly Post Office, along with several children and Sarah Jane's mother, so Mr. WHITE was probably dead by then. In 1860 they were living in Cheraw. Joseph was a stonemaston and a 1st lt. in the Civil War. Keziah Jane WHITE died and is buried at St David's Cheraw. Joseph died of pneumonia within a few years after the war and is also buried at Cheraw. There is a Mr.FERRETTE also on the family plot, but I am not clear on his connection to the family. Sarah Jane White Villeneuve and her 6 or several children are listed in the 1880 census as living on MAIN ST, SUMTER TWP, SUMTER CO. Does anyone have any info on this family? Sarah left Sumter and went to GA and FL. MOISE/STOPPELBEIN: Warren Stoppelbein from Charleston, brother of Rosa and Hattie above, married Edwin "Edie" Moise from SUMTER. They had 3 children Daisy Edna, Lorenz Clifford, and Harriett Louise. HURST/STOPPELBEIN:Brothers CHARLES M and EDWARD HURST married Rosa and Hattie Stoppelbein, sisters from Charleston. Charles was Sheriff of Sumter Co in the early 1920's and perhaps longer. There was clearly a Charleston/Sumter connection, although I'm not sure what it was or how all these folks met.
