Subject: WELSH NAMES From: Elida Date: May 16, 1999 Hello, Tracing Welsh ancestry, I've come across names I would not have associated with Wales. Sometimes the Southwest Wales people moved back and forth between their country and England which may account for some of the names sounding more "English" than "Welsh" - or maybe I just have a lot to learn. I do know that the Northern Wales population stayed "put" more often - that is where can be found names like JONES, THOMAS, HUGHES, PRICE, WILLIAMS, HOWELL. So.............. Here are some surnames from various parts of Wales, UK taken from census records 1861-1891: ACRES, ADAMS, AGRES, ALBERT, ALLDRIDGE, ALLEN, ANDERSON, ANGROV, ANTHONY, ARNOLD, ARROWSMITH, ARTHUR, ASHBURNHAM, ASHEFORD, ASHMAN, ASHWORTH, ASTLEY, ATHERTON, ATKINSON, AUBREY, AUTHUR, BADGER, BANNISTER, BARKLEY, BARNES, BARNETT, BASSETT, BATH, BEESBY, BENBOUGH, BENNETT, BERWICK, BEST, BETHEL, BEVAN, BEYNON, BIONO, BLACKMORE, BLAIR, BLAKEMORE, BLARTHER, BLOW, BONNEL, BONNELL, BOOTH, BOWDEN, BOWEN, BOWSER, BRABYN, BRASSINGTON, BRAZEL, BREWSKA, BRIGGS, BRITTAN, BROWNSWORD, BUCKLEY, BUNYON, BURGESS, BURNS, BURRETT, BURROWS, BUSH, BUTLER, BUTT, BYNON. If there is any interest in this subject, I'll post more of the alphabet.
