My, how times have changed! In response to the above about social security being welfare, and "My, how times have changed!" I wish to reply that Social Security is not welfare in my case. I was told by the federal government that I would contribute to social security from my wages, and I had no choice. My employer was ordered/forced under penalty of law to take part of my salary add his contribution to it and send it to the federal government. So, what I have worked for, what I have paid for, is not welfare. I am not ashamed to accept the monthly social security check; through it my wife and I have a measure of independence from actual welfare.
