Please read all of this before getting upset:

As a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, I know I was lucky
to have two cousins who were already members, so didn't have to do all the
CERIFIED research that is involved in joining this prestigous organization
of women who are decendants of people (yes, there were women, too) who made
our country free.

Without CERIFICIATION of ancestry, anyone can CLAIM to be one of this
organization, and others like them.
This would mean that people who came last year, last century, could make
this claim, but not be who they want to be. That would be untruthful.

There are lots of women (and likely men) who would like to be members of the
organizations who have rules to govern who joins. To some it is a means of
gaining prestige, others want to be able to work for the good of their
country, our military, our children and our ascendants. That is what we in
the DAR do.

Once you join one of these organzations, you will find the whys and
wherefores of their rules.

The people who go thru years of work to be part of DAR/SAR, and Children of
the Revolution, have every right to be there.

I also feel sorry for people who can look in the Patriots Index and find
that they do have a direct line to a person who served in the Revolution,
who helped gain this country's freedoms, but cannot prove same, are in a
very sad situation, and I do empathise for them.

I also know that my 5th grGrandfather was a Pvt. in the Rev, but cannot
prove my second connection without the work mentioned above, which I doubt I
will live long enough to finish.

It would be a sad world indeed, if we had no rules to live by.
