I am forwarding this message from the gentleman (Deo Vindice) who sent
it to me. I had assumed that he also wrote to the list when I replied
to it. Therefore, what I wrote must seem a little bit strange unless
taken in context with what he wrote. I leave it up to the owner of this
list whether you wish to include it.

Under that criteria, Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis were traitors.
Check your
> Constitution for the two definitions of what constitutes treason.

Traitors? To believe that one has to make a huge assumption. One must
assume that the prevailing federal government at the time was itself
legitimate by it upholding the Constitution, which it did not. The
Constitution was the source of its authority that was agreed upon by the 13
colonies/states. Indeed the federal government was the traitor. It
betrayed ALL the American people. We can't accuse someone of treason who is
trying to uphold a lawful agreement between the States that was unlawfully
rejected by the Federal government because it didn't have the votes to
change it. This is why copies of the Constitution was being burned in the
streets of northern cities before the War! Yes a fact! They knew what the
Constitution said and they didn't like it. When the federal government
dismissed the Constitution as a means of federal governmental control it
became a government of centralized tyrants that continues to this very day
(Waco Texas, Ruby Ridge, etc). It was no different than what the colonies
faced under English rule except much worse. Our forefathers told the
citizens how they were to handle such matters; to rid ourselves of them.
Which is what the War for Southern Independence was all about, not slavery.
The Industrial Revolution was bringing slavery to an end. It was over in
Europe. It would soon end in the Americas. Farm equipment had already
been introduced to the South. It was just a matter of time which the north
refused to give the South. Lee and Davis are heroes, not the traitors the
many northern history mythmakers (the victors), still try to make them out
to be. But the victors do indeed write the history books.

Yet, at the end of the Civil War, how many leaders of the Confederacy were
> tried and executed.

Keep in mind that Andrew Johnson was impeached over the way he was
'benevolent' ( if anyone can imagine "Reconstruction"
(indoctrination/deconstruction) being benevolent) to the South after the
War. In 1861 South Carolina and Louisiana were the wealthiest states in the
nation. Today the South has yet recovered from the unnecessary destruction
of the War, "Reconstruction" and modern liberal forces who enjoy the hobby
of South bashing. How many Southern CIVILIANS (men, women and children
both free and slave) were killed and starved? Not only was much civilian
food stolen and destroyed, but the MEANS to produce more food was
intentionally destroyed as well. Women were raped, both free and slave.
Homes, hospitals, schools, churches and whole cities were burned to the
ground. Families, including children were separated and transported north
many never reunited or able to return, etc., All done at the hands of the
federal armies? Conditions were so bad that as many as 20,000 families from
South Carolina alone migrated to Brazil during this time and there weren't a
lot of people in South Carolina.

The South had been so demonized by lies and myths about the Southern
People and its culture (and still are) before the War that to many in the
north, Southerners were like a subhuman species. Sounds like Nazi Germany
doesn't it? Remember John Brown in Kansas and how he killed 5 Southerners
because they were Southerners? And how the north mourned over his death when
the state of Virginia hung him when he tried to start a slave uprising but
the slaves didn't show up? And let us never forget that 'Dishonest Abe'
only 'emancipated' Southern slaves. Border States and northern States
under Federal control were able to keep their slaves and sell them off, not
so in the South. Read the entire 'Emancipation Proclamation' and see for
yourself. Neither Lincoln nor Grant's families would free their slaves,
while General Lee did so before the War ever started! Also keep in mind that
the slave shipping companies were from the north. The slave, death ships
were Yankee ships! Who sold them to Southerners for lots of money!. And the
biggest question of all, why the slaves whom the north was trying to
'liberate' never rebelled when "emancipated", that's because the South was
the land that all Southerners loved and the north was seen as an invading
force trying to destroy their lives and homeland, which they did. This
benevolent attitude from the north of not executing Confederate leaders
rings hollow! I wonder why?
