[email protected] ------------------------------------------------ Seeking information on the TORREY, TORRY or TORRIE family of South Carolina, North Carolina and/or Georgia. Alexander TORRY was born in South Carolina in 1776 and died in Monroe County, Alabama in 1835. He married Phalby HORN, daughter of Jesse HORN and Elizabeth EADS, about 1809, probably in Georgia. Alexander TORRY later lived in Hancock and Clarke Counties in Georgia before moving to Alabama Territory about 1817. Who were the parents of Alexander TORRY? Was he a son of James TORRY (c1744-c 1818) and a Miss Hamilton of Cumberland County, North Carolina? On page 231 of "Lumber River Scots and Their Descendants" an Alexander Torry is listed as the son of this James TORRY. Did this family flee to South Carolina from North Carolina during the Revolutionary War to escape persecution by the patriots? If so where did they live (Charleston perhaps)? Alexander and James TORRY drew blanks in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery listing Hancock County as their place of residence. An Alexander Torry lived in or near Augusta, Georgia in 1808. Any information on any TORRY, TORREY or TORRIE family from South Carolina, North Carolina, or Georgia will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any assistance offered.
