If you had read the whole thread you would have know that I did not refer to 
social security as being welfare.  I was only following up on what someone 
else had said about in the early days many older people did consider applying 
for social security as being applying for welfare and refused to do so.  I 
had a great aunt who absolutely refused to do so because she was not going to 
be on "welfare."  Don't be so quick to jump on someone if you have not gone 
back and read what the abbreviated quote is referring to.  My comment on how 
times have changed refers to how many people are so quick to sign up for what 
now really is welfare and think the government owes them a living.
