I was the winner of many Sword Drills when The Rev Rouse was pastor. I'll also show how rusty I am because I haven't read the Bible in years. :( OK....Here goes.....The first place I remember reading about a tithe was in the Old Testament when God ordered the people to give a tithe.....or a gift, to the Priests so that they could minister to the Israelites full time and not have to work in the fields or with livestock. And I THINK that at this time a tithe was the first of the crops and the first of the animals born. I'm sure that tithe is mentioned in a number of places in the Old Testament. I remember a sermon that Rev Rouse gave about tything. (They have to do this every once in a while or people won't give.) He said at that sermon that if what you give is not given in the right spirit.....gladly and with joy......then don't give. He said that God does not accept bribes. A tithe has come to mean 10% of your income. Some say gross some say net. In Europe when the Church was the government your tithe was the tax you paid to the government. OK, I've told you more than I know. And I know it's more than you want to hear. :) If I got any of this wrong, please be gentle with your scolding. I did it gladly and with joy.
