Subject: Timmons Family, St Bartholomews Parish, Colleton Co. From: Mary Timmons Date: June 26, 1999 Hi, Thought I'd give this query another try, has been almost two years since the original posting so maybe someone has come across the name since then. I am trying to find information and/or descendants of the Timmons family consisting of three brothers, Thomas, Richard and George (born in Ireland to a Quaker family), and according to what few records I have found, all planters, residing with their families in St. Bartholomews Parish, Colleton County as early as the 1730's and possibly the mid 1720's. These boys were born to George Timmons son of Richard and Mary Turner daughter of Thomas Turner, all Quaker folk from the area of Lurgan, Co. Armagh, Ireland. The Will written in June of 1756 by Thomas who died February 1761, makes no reference to a wife or children of his own but does mention his eldest brother Richard and brother George (appears he may have resided with Thomas) and his three sons Thomas, George and John; brother John of Baltimore County near Joppa, Maryland and sister Sarah Gallery of Lurgan, County Armagh, Ireland. Eldest brother Richard died October 1761, his Will drawn May 1760 mentions present wife Mary Ann and children (present and others) Thomas, John, Richard, Mary and Sarah. Also found amongst the Land Records of St. Bartholomew Parish 1764-1769, a Thomas, Elizabeth and Hannah Timmons but do not know for sure if these folks are somehow related. A plat map (1769) in which these folk are mention also refers to an area called "Timmons Swamp". Any clue, no matter how small, will be deeply appreciated for beyond this point, with the exception of one possible military reference, we have not been able to locate the smallest tidbit regarding any of them.
