His father's name is believed to be James Harry THORPE. James Welch THORPE attended Clafin College/University from 1898 to 1901. Was married approx. 1908 in Orangeburg, SC to Grace Annette Legare FORDHAM. Grace's parents were John Hammond FORDHAM and Louisa Gertrude SMITH(or Smythe).
