The gentlemen I am looking for is Thomas Rae. Born before 1835, died = March 16, 1891. Parents James Rae (1809 Roxboroughshire, Scotland -1889) and Margaret = Murdie (1811 Berwickshire- 1890) Family lore has that he was the first to venture across the sea from = Scotland to South Carolina. He worked his way up on a cotton = plantation, and married the owner. During the civil war he fought in = the Conferderate army & was taken prisoner. After the war, he rebuilt = his fortune and lost it in an earthquake. Children were James, Alex (?) and Margaret. His parents, and 9 children came to Canada in 1855. Any ideas on how to start to find Thomas on this very little = information?
