There were many taverns around in those days, similar to motels and roadside
restaurants today, including several "__ mile house taverns." You can find a
number of them on Mills' Atlas. The Charleston District map in Mill's Atlas
shows a "10 Mile House Tavern" located about 10 miles from Charleston along
Goose Creek Road. Modern day Highway 78/58 approximates the route of old Goose
Creek Road.

Other taverns shown by Mills include:

"4 Mile House Tavern" located in Charleston Neck along Goose Creek Road.

"6 Mile House Tavern", "Quarter house Tavern", and "Dover's Tavern" located at
the junction of Goose Greek Road and Dorchester Road.

"8 Mile House Tavern" located on Dorchester Road between "Quarter house Tavern"
and the Ashley Ferry.

"18 Mile House Tavern", two "Breaker's Tavern's", and a "Reardon's Tavern" all
located about a mile or two above Goose Creek Bridge near the junction of
Wassamisa Road with the road to Strawberry Ferry, and the Back River Upper Road.

"22 Mile House Tavern" and another "Reardon's Tavern" located on the road
between Strawberry Ferry and "18 Mile House Tavern."

Various other taverns shown on Mills' Charleston District map include:

16 Mile House Tavern
25 Mile House Tavern
45 Mile House Tavern
Cahill's Tavern
Calais Tavern
Crawford's Tavern
Drose's Tavern
Harley's Tavern
Kennedy's Tavern
Prier's Tavern
Redheimer's Tavern
Rigg's Tavern
Smith's Tavern
Wilkie's Tavern
