Subject: Sybil Fikes bca 1843 Lexington, SC From: Skyvine Date: July 05, 1999 I am specifically seeking to tie Sybil FIKES (bca 1843 Lexington SC, d aft 1880 prob Newberry SC) in with the FIKES family in Lexington. Sybil (Sibbie E.) m. James Robert RIVERS (bca 1843 Lexington, d aft 1880 prob Newberry). I need to do more census work, but according to the 1880 Hollow Creek District Census of Lexington Co, SC: Robert RIVERS age 45; Sybil, wife; Children: Salomi; David age 18; Cora age 14; Rebecca age 12; Ina age 9; Henry age 7; Rebie age 5; Melviedie age 3; Ezra age 1; Mary. [I have much more on the family of David Aaron RIVERS who married sisters Ella Jane "Janie" and Laura Rodella "Laurie" SHEALY.] Of the FIKES in Lexington, I have a file from Ancestry World Tree online which shows George FIKES m. Catherine, with the descendancy through son, John FIKES, b. 1799 Lexington. According to LDS's Ancestry File online, George (b 1777 Lexington) and Catherine (b bef 1781, prob Lexington) FIKES also had 4 other sons: Martin Luther (6-18-1797 Lexington SC -- 6-14-1873 Lauderdale MS) [the LDS data centered on this son, his 3 sons who were all b. Lexington and d. TX, and one of those son's 17 children who were largely b. MS/TX and d. TX.], Michael (b. 1802, prob Lexington), Jesse (b. 1811 SC), and Jacob Ezra (2-17-1829 Lexington -- 3-6-1898). I have found a number of references in Newberry SC deed books for FIKES: Deed Book P2 - 168 26 May 1812 - 01 Oct 1821 - 03 Oct 1821. THOMAS DUCKETT for $120 paid ALEXANDER LOWRY for 100 acres on Indian Creek original grant JOHN CALDWELL, and was conveyed from JOHN CALDWELL 06 Sep 1785 to ABRAHAM FIKE and from FIKE on 19 Jan 1799 to JAMES BUCHANNAN and from BUCHANNAN on 25 Jul 1801 to JOHN JOHNSON, and from JOHNSON on 19 Oct 1810 to THOMAS DUCKETT. Wit. JOHN McMORRIES & WILLIAM LOWRY. Deed Book P2 - 273 19 Nov 1752, and in the 7th year of American Independence (1782?) - 27 Apr 1782 - 01 Apr 1822. GEORGE M. RIDDLEHUBER of Orangeburg, a planter, for 10 shillings leases unto GEORGE ADAM KOON 200 acre original grant MICJAEL CALLFELL on Crims Creek. Adj. at original all sides vacant. Signed GEORGE M. RIDDLEHUBER & HANNAH RIDDLEHUBER. Wit. MICHAEL DICKERT, BENEDICT KOON, & PETER STOCKMAN. Release 20 Nov 1782. GEORGE RIDDLEHUBER of Ninety Six Dist. releases to GEORGE ADAM KOON of Orangeburg, [planter, per original grant 27 Aug 1751 to MICHAEL CALFELL for 200 acres on two branches of Crims Creek, all sides vacant at original grant. Said MICHAEL CALFELL sold said acres for 100 pounds to GEORGE FIKE. Said 200 acres were transferred to said GEORGE RIDDLEHUBER by MARTIN FIKE, son and heir at law to the estate of his father GEORGE FIKE, dec. by deed 15 & 16 Aug 1780. Now said GEORGE RIDDLEHUBER sells said 200 acres for 325 pounds paid by GEORGE A. KOON. [This seems to indicate that the generations of FIKES men in Lexington are successively George (d. bef 1782) >> Martin (d. aft 1782) >> George (b. 1777 who m. Catherine above) >> Martin Luther / John / Michael / Jesse / Jacob Ezra , with Abraham (d. aft 1799) as a brother to one of the earlier 3 generations.] GEORGE FIKE also served with a Warrant of Appraisement on 5 Sep 1810 for the Newberry Estate of CHRISTOPHER DICKERT (Box 5, Pkg. 18) On 3 Aug 1822, MARTIN FIKES & JOHN FIKES provided surities for the estate of GEORGE TAYLOR, which was administered by JOHN TAYLOR. Also, MICHAEL TAYLOR sold 50 acres (on the waters of Saluda) to JOHN FIKES for $100, title being made 31 Dec 1820, proved 14 Jan 1822, recorded 26 Oct 1825. Looking online at census data (I need a trip to the Archives), there were 1800 George Fikes Newberry 21010-30010-00 1820 George Fikes Newberry 010101-01101 1820 George Fikes Lexington 110210-11110 1850 David Fikes Lexington 1850 John M.
