Subject: SUTTONS-Lancaster Co. c1850 From: d t s Date: January 30, 1998 The Flat Creek/Hickory Head Township, of Lancaster Co., 1850 census, lists: 513 Mrs. N. Reynolds 70 M. Sutton 50F S. Sutton 21F J. Sutton 19M 514 E. Sutton 22M C. Sutton 20F E. Sutton 6/12M The first names were not filled in, just initials. Can anyone identify these folks? I think the J. Sutton, 19M, is Zachariah Sutton. I'm trying to connect them to my ggf, Zachariah SUTTON, b.1832, d.1870-1880, and ggm, Mary Ann Phillips SUTTON, b.1832, d.? The 1860, 1870, and 1880 census for the same Flat Creek/Hickory Head Township, lists Zachariah, and his wife Mary. In the 1860 census, both are age 28, with the one child, Sarah Frances. Sarah Frances, 1860-1920, m. George Washington Watts. In the 1870 census, Zachariah and Mary are age38, with Sarah Frances, age10, Eliza, age8, George Franklin, age6, Lucy, age3, and Sophronia Matilda, age7months. Eliza, 1862-1907, m. James Hazelton Hopkins. George Franklin, 1864-1943, m. (1) Anne Elizabeth Mathis, 1869-1906, and (2) Mary Elizabeth Fields, 1885-1932. No information known at this time for Lucy. Information on Sophronia Matilda being gathered and not organized. In the 1880 census for the Flat Creek/Hickory Head Township, Mary Ann Phillips SUTTON, is listed as a widow, with just two children, at home, George Franklin, age16, and Sophronia Matilda, age10. Zachariah SUTTON, is also listed as being in the 1st S.C. Volunteer Regiment, Co. D, per the "Memoirs of the Was of Secession", by Johnson Hagood, BG, C.S.A., page 415. I am trying to identify the burial locations and dates, for Zachariah and Mary Ann Phillips SUTTON, and also any information on the daughter, Lucy. Thank you, David T.
