SUTTON, JOHN A.	1818-1869 	BERRIEN

John A. Sutton was born in 1818 in Montgomery County, son of John and 
Blansett Sutton (Vol.III). He was brought by his parents in his childhood 
to Irwin County (now Berrien) and was married there May 23, 1839, to Hester 
Ann Harper, daughter of Leonard Harper (VoI.I); she was born 1821. She died 
in 1864, and Mr. Sutton then married Dec. 26, 1866, Mrs. Fannie Garrett 
Fulford, and by her had one child, Ella. By the two marriages he had ten 
children, viz:

1. Blansett	b. 1840, m. Thomas Paulk, Mar. 10, 1859.
2. John L.	b. 1842, m. Ist. Priscilla Griffin, dau. of James, March 22, 
1863; 2nd. Nancy Tomberlin.
3. Hester Ann	b. 1844, m. Elijah Vickers, Nov. 24, 1859.
4. Fleming Bates	b. 1846,	m. Mariah Duff, March 8, 1868, dau. of Patrick.
5. Mary Rebecca	b. 1848, m. David J. Luke, July 29, 1866.
6. Rachel	b. 1852, m. Daniel Turner May 5, 1868.
7. Oscar Edenfield	b. 1852, m. Sarah McClellan, dau. of Lorenzo D.
8. Thomas H. Tally	b. 1862, m. Eady Mathis, dau. of Timothy.
9. Ella	b. 1868, m. Benj. F. Moore.

Mr. Sutton served in the Indian War in Capt. David R. Bryan's company of 
Lowndes County militia in 1838. He died in 1869, and was buried at Flat 
Creek Church, Berrien County. He died testate, leaving a will which was 
probated. The two oldest sons, John L. and Flem B., were the executors. His 
home-place was in the 5th land district of Berrien County.


SUTTON, MOSES G.	1806-1875	BERRIEN

Moses G. Sutton was born in Wilkinson County, Jan. 30, 1806. His parents 
were from North Carolina. He was married in Wilkinson County, Jan. 12, 
1827, to Eliza Webb, daughter of Dawson and Phoebe Webb. Their children 
were:

1. Mary	b. 1828, m. Riley Mathis.
2. Epsey	b. 1830, never m.
3. Seaborn J.	b. 1832, m. Ellen Shaw, dau. of Jeremiah.
4. Elizabeth	b. 1833, m. Henry Smith of Fla.
5. Newton	b. 1835, m. Fairiby Mullis, dau. of Blackstone.
6. Prances	b. 1837, m. Abner Sirmans, son of Jonathan.
7. Ira J.	b. 1841,	m. Mary A. Mattox, Oct. 29, 1860, dau. of Samuel.
8. Nancy	b. 1843, m. Elijah Boyd.
9. Jerry W.	b. 1846,	m. Martha Watson, Sept. 1, 1870, dau. of Mark.
10. Jemima	b. 1848, died young.
11. Malissa	b. 1854, died single in State Asylum.

Mr. and Mrs. Sutton moved to Lowndes County, 1847, in company with her 
parents. They lived in the Cat Creek district until about 1854 when they 
moved to near the present Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In 1856 they were 
cut out of Lowndes into Berrien County. They were charter members of Poplar 
Springs Church when it was constituted in 1958, and remained members until 
their deaths.
Mr. Sutton served as Justice of Peace, 1148th district, 1861-64.
He died July 17, 1875, Mrs. Sutton was born Dee, 3, 1810, Wilkinson County, 
and died March 26, 1857. They were buried at Empire Church.
NOTE: Her tombstone gives her name as Louisa, but the marriage license 
record in Wilkinson County and the 1850 Census of Lowndes show her name as 
Eliza, and it is so given above.
