It is almost impossible to separate the Carolinians, Tennesseans, Georgians
and points north from each other as they seem to have merged together at
some point in time.  For example, many of the surnames listed in the
1850-1860 census for Winston County, Alabama look like the following:

It isn't known whether these families only tarried for a while and then
moved points east, west, north or south.  Many of them are in the 1850
census but gone in the 1860 census.  Some of them are in the 1860 census
but not the 1850 census.  Nearly all of the surnames listed are as the
example above with mixed states in each household.  But, I have included
all of the surnames for the state of North Carolina in the following
