Subject: Sumter County Deeds From: Deborah Byrd Date: March 02, 1999 Several people have asked how I have a copy of the deeds. I'll share the secret. I have ordered through my local LDS Family History Center, many of the court records of Sumter District and Sumter County. They are on microfilm and available for loan. I have ordered the Grantor/Grantee index for deeds, Various deed books, Probate index for the county, Will books, probate bundles, and equity court records. The film here costs $3.41 per reel and I have it for about 4 weeks. If I need to I can extend the order. I have used the family history Centers from Alaska to Georgia and have ordered film from several of the southern states. The holdings on each county vary. Sumter County allowed a lot of their records microfilmed as did Darlington. Others don't have as much, such as Florence (where part of my Byrds lived). It is a good resource. I hope that it is available close enough so that you can use it.
