Subject: SUMPTER, DUBOIS, GAILLARD, MILES; NEILSON, NELSON, MASON, RUGELEY From: ELIZABETH RUSSO Date: January 31, 2000 This transaction was recorded right after the previous one posted. In the first one, SAMUEL DUBOIS was said to have been of St. Stephens Parish; here he is from St. Johns Parish. I'm not clear why he would state himself to be of one, then the next parish in back-to-back transactions like this, especially since the first purchase he was said to already be of St. Stephens where both transactions take place. So it is not like he had just moved to St. Stephens in the second transaction... SAMUEL DUBOIS also appears in records in St. Matthew's Parish, where he died and left a will. Do others find their ancestors in several parishes within the same year? I've found this happening with several of my ancestors. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Book Z-3, pp. 265-271 THOMAS SUMPTER, & MARY, his wife, of St. 31 May & 1 June 1771 Marks parish, Craven Co., to SAMUEL DUBOIS, L & R planter of St. Johns Parish, Berkeley Co., for L 650 currency, 200 a. on S side Santee River, bounding E on Scotts Old Field; S on JOHN HAY; W on TACITUS GAILLARD; which 200 a. were granted on 15 Oct. 1766 to AQUILLA MILES; who by L& R dated 15 Oct. 1766 sold to THOMAS SUMPTER.
