Dean,

Have you checked with the National Archives in Washington DC or the SC 
Archives?  The National Archives has on microfilm a list of Union 
SOldiers who served in the Civil War.  Also, the  SC Archives has a book 
that lists the Confederate soldiers who served from SC.  The National 
Genealogical Society has a series of books that lists Confederate 
Soldiers by state.  One of these sources should be able to help.
