SPENCE FAMILY EARLY/MID 1800'S - Jan Turner

I have run into the proverbial "brick wall" with my 2gr-grandparents and
hope that someone can help me.

I know that Robert SPENCE and his wife, Mary Ann(aka Polly) ???(maybe
Brown, Hall, or Hunter), were PROBABLY married in 1822. They had the
following children:

Robert SPENCE, Jr., b-1823, Anderson County, SC
Hugh (aka Hewie) SPENCE, b-1826/27, Anderson County, SC
John SPENCE, b-about 1829, Laurens, SC
William J. SPENCE, b-1833, Laurens, SC - m. 1856 in Hendersonville, NC to
Elizabeth Jane (Jenny) MOORE, b-1834, NC
Andrew SPENCE-b-1834/35, Laurens, SC
Marg SPENCE, b-about 1837, Laurens, SC
Samuel SPENCE-b.1839/40, SC
Henry Tennessee SPENCE, b.1845, Laurens, SC, m.1847 to Mary Ann (aka Polly)
		CLARDY, b. 1847, Anderson, SC
David C. SPENCE, b-1847/48, Laurens, SC
Peggy SPENCE, b. 1849, Laurens, SC (possibly married a CARTER)
Nancy SPENCE, b. 1851, Laurens, SC (Probably married a CARTER)

Does anyone recognize any of these people? If so, does anyone know Mary
Ann's REAL maiden name? The names of her parents? The birthdays of either
Robert, SR and/or Mary Ann? The names of Robert's parents? I know that
they lived, but cannot find any evidence that they did.

William J. was my gr-grandfather, and apparently had quite a falling out
with his brothers and/or his father and "ran away" to Texas in about 1870.
He did not contact the rest of his family until he was an old man, and did
not tell his kids/grandkids much about his family, so everything is very
hard to run down.
