South Carolina Researchers:

It is no secret to most of you, that several South Carolinians migrated
into Georgia. They were primarily attracted by the cheapness and
fertility of the soil here.

For several years, I have been performing genealogical research,
primarily in Houston Co., GA (formed in 1821), which is one of the
largest counties in the state. After reviewing thousands of court
documents, I have noticed various patterns of migration into Houston Co.,
GA. Though SC is not the only state from where many families migrated
into Houston Co., GA, there sure were a lot of them.

About 1836, Houston Co., GA had a whole colony to come at one time from
SC. It is very likely that because of the success of these early
settlers from Orangeburg Co., SC, that later on, many others from SC
located here.

Some of the most prominent families of Houston Co., GA were from SC,
including those of:

Samuel Felder, Joseph Palmer, Francis Marion King, Samuel D. Killen, John
M. Giles, P.B.D.H. Culler, W.M. Davis, William Brunson, C.H. Richardson,
George S. Riley, John J. Hampton, John A. Houser.

In 1996, I compiled and published a book entitled: HOUSTON COUNTY,
GEORGIA, EVERGREEN CEMETERY, TOMBSTONE TRANSCRIPTS 1827-1997, by William
A. Mills. This book is now sold out, but is available at most major
genealogy libraries in the U.S. It is also available via LDS microfilm
at Family History Centers (FHC) throughout the world.

While transcribing the inscriptions from all of the tombstones in that
cemetery, I noticed that some of them had a lot of detailed info about
those buried there.

Below, I have included those which show their connection to South
Carolina:

Eliza M. Houser (b 20 Nov 1828, d 1 Feb 1859). Wife of D.H. Houser, and
