For questions about possible Indian relatives who disspear on the census
list, only to be replaced by the same name as a black person, researchers
should know that race identification was often a very uneven process.  Many
places in the States have the same people in the 19th century and early 20th
century listed as mulatto, colored, Indian in different years.
