Steve--You opened the door so I am going to walk in. I have supported your
positions on most, if not all, of the controversies that have popped up on
the list. I believe you are wrong in this case. You have made issue of
other lists using wording in their titles, etc., that would give
unsuspecting users the idea that they were participating in the good
services, and several other functions of this list. Your objections were
well founded and well stated. You implied, without directly saying so, that
it was an unethical practice. And you were absolutely correct.

I will leave the matters of moral or legal implications to others; however,
WDF is justified in his criticism of the breach made upon his work.
Presenting something as if it is one's own work, when in fact it is not, is
unethical. It matters not that it is done daily on the net.

I also take issue with your position that WDF, "...by demanding credit and
controlled access you certainly aren't advocating open and free sharing."
WDF has not advocated controlled access...what he has requested, and the
violator has refused, is that (if memory serves me correctly) WDF's work be
accessed through WDF's home or index page. That he wants credit for his
work is right and proper. You have previously noted the same desire in some
of the issues that have plagued your work and the list. You and WDF are
not, and have not, engaged in making unreasonable demands about authorship.

While I believe WDF could have undercut the violator's breach in a more
subtle manner, it would have no doubt caused considerable work for WDF. To
me at least, the work would have been worth it. I have always admired the
art of cutting off your opponent's head without him knowing it (until he
tries to look up).

It is my hope that you will rethink your position and restate it to the
list.
