Susan, this is such a long shot, but it won't hurt to tell you. I 
have a SMITH family in Union, SC. Smith, Whitman Hill (don't know 
dates) married Waddill, Emeline (1817 - before 1861). They had the 
following children, but I don't know whether this list is exhaustive:

Smith, George Wilbur (7 OCT 1844 - 14 APR 1926 Union, SC)
Smith, Eliza 
Smith, William
Smith, Edmund 
Smith, James W. 
Smith, Lucy A. 
Smith, John Whitman (ABT. 1850 - MAR 1927)

I don't know William's dates, but I don't have a spouse for him so it 
is possible that he died young.

George Wilbur Smith's daughter, Ella David Smith, ended up in Belton, 
SC (Anderson County). Their farm is still owned by my grandfather and 
is on Broadway School Rd.

I don't have any Clarks in my database, though.
