Agreed Sylvia,  I never knew Lee owned slaves?? I do know his wife did
and he could not free those people because they did not belong to him
based on his wife's inheritance.   Lee, to my knowledge did not fight
for slavery, but for 
freedom from a government that pushed him into making a decision of
fighting for his country, Virginia, which was going to be invaded by the
enemy. 

Thanks for your comments and thanks to everyone who has lived and died
in the name of freedom.   I personally feel that even today the US
government wishes to control the people.  There is a new party that goes
by the name of League of the South .  The following is their objective.

1.To educate Southerners and all Americans about the true history of the

textbooks, films, television, and popular culture in general;

2.To promote the cultural symbols, historic monuments, and cultural
heritage of the
South that are everywhere under attack;

3.To stimulate the economic vitality of Southern communities, which are
too often
treated as colonies of outside interests;

4.To restore the Constitutional liberties guaranteed to the states and
the people in the
Bill of Rights;

5.To eliminate the power of federal judges and government agencies to
regulate the
educational, religious, and moral standards of local communities.

THE LEAGUE OF THE SOUTH is a non-profit organization that seeks to
advance the cultural, social,
economic, and political well-being and independence of the Southern
people by all honorable
