Subject: Re: Ships to Charleston- 1760s From: Marshall Britt Date: May 21, 2000 Joyce, I don't know the ship's name but they came from England. Their names were William Stukes and Joseph Stukes. They were here by 1772 when William received a land grant From the King. Joseph was a jeweler and that's about all we know about him other than he was written up in a book on jewelers in the 1770's. William was a merchant and had a store at #12 Broad St. He died on 1783 and his obit was in the newspaper but did not give survivers or anything like that. His wife Martha remarried a year later and in her marriage settlement to Thomas Surtill/Surtell she state that William died leaving a considerable estate of real and personal property in SC and in England. We have tried to trace the estate in England but have come up with nothing. Terry Joyce McManus wrote: Terry, > Re the ship your people arrived on...can you give me the name of ship > or persons?
