Joyce,
I don't know the ship's name but they came from England. Their names were
William
Stukes and Joseph Stukes. They were here by 1772 when William received a land
grant
From the King. Joseph was a jeweler and that's about all we know about him other
than
he was written up in a book on jewelers in the 1770's. William was a merchant
and had
a store at #12 Broad St. He died on 1783 and his obit was in the newspaper but
did not
give survivers or anything like that. His wife Martha remarried a year later and
in her marriage settlement to Thomas Surtill/Surtell she state that William died
leaving a considerable estate of real and personal property in SC and in
England. We have tried to
trace the estate in England but have come up with nothing.
