Subject: Re: Ships to Charleston- 1760s From: Joyce McManus Date: May 21, 2000 Terry, Re the ship your people arrived on...can you give me the name of ship or persons? I have a book about approx. 400 people from germany arriving in Charleston on three different ships in 1764 and 1765. This includes names of children. They came from England where they were stranded by the former soldier who took their money, also. The King furnished them with ships and land grants in the piedmont section of South Carolina after hearing of their misfortune. He needed the section settled to form a barrier between the Indians and the people of Charleston (or the coast), so this worked two fold. They received land in America and he made certain the settlements happened! These people were originally headed for Nova Scotia! If anyone else thinks their ancestors may have been on these ships, e-mail me privately and I will do lookups.
