MIDDLETON. STEPHEN S.	1823-1883 	APPLING

Stephen Samuel Middleton was born on September 11. 1823 in Georgia. 
believed to be the son of Samuel Middleton of Emanuel County. Both of his 
parents were born in North Carolina according to the 1880 Appling County 
census. He moved to Appling County as a young man and lived there the 
remainder of his life. S. S.. as he was known. was an early merchant in 
Appling County. his store being located near the Altamaha River between Ten 
Mile Creek and Five Mile Creek. He was married about 1846 to Miriam 
Samantha Leggett. born on June 13. 1831 in Appling County. She was the 
daughter of Benjamin Leggett (Vol.IV).
To them were born the following children:

1. Joshua Spence	b.	1846. m. 	Sophronia F. Weatherly. 1/4/1874. dau. of 
Isaac Weatherly.
2. Florence E.	b.	1850. m. 	Abraham Molton Eason. 7/7/1878. son of Felix K 
Eason.
3. Mary J.	b. 4/5/1851. m. 	William W. Winn. 1/10/1872.
4. Franklin Pierce	b. 12/5/1853. m. 	Margaret "Maggie"Collins. dau. of 
Andrew C. Collins.
5. Miriam S. L.	b. 8/5/1857. m. 	Henry Overstreet. 1/31/1883. son of John 
Overstreet.
6. Stephen S.. Jr.	b. 1/4/1858	m. Marjory L. "Maggie" Eason. dau. of George 
Eason.
7. Sarah Clementine	b. 3/4/1859. m. William Wallace Graham. 10/31/1876. son 
of John Graham.
8. Emeline	b. 4/5/1860. m. 	Henry C. Floyd. 3/19/1875.
9. Beauregard G.	b. 5/5/1861. m. 	Nancy Eason. dau. of Felix K. Eason. 
5/17/1885.
10. Laura	b.	1862. m. John Comas. son of John Comas.
11. Susan L.	b. 9/19/1863. m. 	Reverend John Underwood 	Tippins. 6/18/1884.
12. William Tell	b. 2/4/1865. m. 	1) Lora S. Mattox. 3/8/1891.
	d. 1/211933.	dau. of Joseph Allen Mattox. 2) Elizabeth Olive McCormack 
			4/7/1907. dau of George McCormack.
13. Ella Lee	b. 4/27/1866. m. 	Isham K. Reddish. 5/9/1883. son of George 
Reddish.
14. James Hobbs 	b. 7/9/1869.m. Julia Collins. dau. of William Collins.

Stephen Middleton died in 1883. Information concerning the death of Miriam 
Middleton is not available at this time.
Mr. and Mrs. Middleton and all but three of their children are buried in 
the Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Appling County. Joshua is buried in 
the Hazlehurst City Cemetery. Sarah Clementine is buried in the Graham 
Cemetery near Holmesville.

MIDDLETON. WILLIAM T.	1865-1933 	APPLING

William Tell Middleton was born on February 4.1865 in Appling County. 
Georgia He was a son of Stephen Samuel Middleton and Miriam Samantha 
Leggett. (Vol.VII). He was married on March 8. 1891 to Lora S. Mattox. born 
in 1867 in TattnaU County. She was the youngest daughter of Joseph Allen 
Mattox and Mary Strickland (Vol. IV).
To them the following children were born:

1. Stephen Allen	b. 10/14/1892. m. 	Christine Weatherly. dau. of
	d. 11/7/1950.	Guyton Napoleon Weatherly.
2. Minnie Rice	b. 8/23/1901. m. 	John Leslie Tuten. son of John Leonard 
Alexander, and Mary Elizabeth Herndon.

Lora S. (Mattox) Middleton died on February 1. 1905 at the age of 38. His 
second marriage. April 7.1907. was to Elizabeth Olive "Mittie" McCormack. 
born on May 28. 1880. daughter of George and Elizabeth McCormack of 
Orangeburg. South Carolina She died on October 3. 1955. To them the 
following children were born:

4. James Wallace	b. 9/26/1908. 	d. 6/15/1914.
5. William Hobbs	b. 2/4/1911. m. Mabel Gillian.
6. Charlie Myron	b. 5/10/1914. m. Francis Langford. dau. of
	d. 11/20/1960.	Charlie S. Langford.
7. Nellie H.	b. 2/4/1920. m. Albert Lee Conner. son of George Conner.
8. Waldron Tell	b. 12/4/1921.  d. 1/6/1924.

Mr. Middleton was a farmer in Appling County where he managed his mother's 
farm. Later. he left Appling County to work as a section foreman for 
Southern Railroad in Wayne County. He was living in Appling County. Georgia 
at the time of his death on January 21. 1933. He is buried in the Bethel 
Methodist Church Cemetery in Appling County along with his first and second 
wife.
