Subject: Re: SCROOTS-D Digest V99 #303 From: James Miller, Jr. Date: December 20, 1999 Mrs. Green, Do you desc. Thomas Drayton, a desc. of Lady Mary Mackenzie? If so, I desc. her uncle, Capt. Wm. Mackenzie (yeh, I know he's supposed to have drowned at sea) in 1771 H.M. Collector of Customs, Sunbury, Ga. I desc. his daughter Cristian Mackenzie who wed Loyalist Capt. Philip Yonge, H.M. Surveyor-General of Georgia, son of the Hon. Henry and Elizabeth Bellinger Yonge, Sr., Loyalist, H.M. Surveyor-General of Georgia. Henry's dad was the Hon. Francis Yonge of S.C., Lords Proprietors Surveyor-General of the Bahamas, Carolinas, and Georgia, and I think Chief Justice of S.C.? His brother was Robert Yonge of Yonge's Island, S.C., and the name of his plantation was really "Toogooloo", Cherokee, meanung "in the forks of the river". The third brother was the RtRev Philip Yonge, Bishop of Bristol and Norwich and H.M. Chaplain. Henry Sr's last wife was "that rebel" he called her; the sister of Patriot Gov. Archie Bullock. I desc. the Bellinger wife, the daughter of Capt. Wm. Bellinger, Sr., and Mary Cantey (daughter of Wm. Cantey and Jane Baker. She of noble lineage). He was the son of Teige Cantey, Sr. Capt. Bellinger was the son of Sir Edmund Bellinger, Sr., of Tombodly Barony and Ashepoo Barony, Landgrave. Capt. Wm. Mackenzie also had, this from a poor memory, Anna Jean Mackenzie who wed the Hon. John Simpson, Jr., H.M. Chief Justice of Ga., Crown Clerk of Court, and member of H.M. Council. My grandfather was Edward Yonge Wootten of Wilmington, N.C., and Mrs Christian Mackenzie Fleming (widowed, she remaried. I know some of those descs. too) is buried at the old Bradley family chapel, Airlie Gardens, Bradley's Creek, Wilmington (I'm a Bradley too).
