They have an agriculture census that gets the farm persons on census. I don't know why but some farmers just don't seem to get on all the 10 yr. Fed. Census. Check your state for any odd yr. census also. OK, I got that far and remembered I purchased the book South Carolina Genealogical Research by George K Schweitzer, Ph.D., Sc.D. It is a new book for me (printed 1993) and have not had time to read it since I got it at my last seminar couple wks. ago. In this book there are several types of census reports. I will list them Some early lists for the peroid 1670 - 1788 Regualr (R) Agricultural (A) Individial (I) Mortality (M) Slaveholder (S) The special 1840 Revolutionary War pension census (P) The special 1890 Union Civil War veteran census Some state censuses (X) The book cost me $13.00 at my latest seminar where I heard Mary Bell from VA Speak on Manuscripts and where to find them The South Carolina book is 173 pages and well worth the money I spent. Our Genealoty Society schedules a spring and fall seminar with well known people in the field and they invite vendors to come with their wares of CD'. books, maps, and the books sometimes are used and discounted. Being a member of a society group you are discounted and others pay a little more being non members. Look to your area for these things it is well worth the time to attend these. The book has 5 maps of the couties and district origins, one on court districts. Also have a three page chart and tells where a record was and where it is now. The book states that SC has a complicated history of districts and counties. I have a book like this for IN and I have used it very much and now that I have remembered this book I will be using it a lot also. I do not sell books and the above info is for your information only not to promote any publication. I have put this in solely for the love of genealogy.
