Subject: Scots-Irish from SC to IL From: Michael L. Jones Date: September 14, 1999 Greetings, Rooters. I just received my copy of the St. Clair County, IL genealogy bulletin, "Branching Out." In this issue (Vol. 26, No. 4), there is an excerpt printed with permission from "Destiny of the Scotch-Irish, An Account of a Presbyterian Migration 1720-1853" by H. Leonard Porter III, 1985. In the particular pages quoted, Scots-Irish Presbyterians who came From western South Carolina, especially from Abbeville District, into southern Illinois before 1815 are enumerated. This area of southern Illinois was the Sparta area in Randolph County, Sparta then being known as Plum Creek. I wanted to make you aware of this book by Mr. Porter, if you were not familiar with it. It may explain where some of your "missing" ancestors settled. Among the names quoted from pages 49-55 are: PATTERSON, TINDAL, HUGGINS, LACY, McCLINTON, ANDERSON, HILL, COX, THOMPSON, McBRIDE, McDONALD, LIVELY, CROZIER, CAMPBELL, TAGGART, FOSTER, BEATTLE, LESLIE, NELSON, McFARLAND, NISBET, WILSON, and HUNTER. Please note: I don't have this book and do not know of its availability; however, I would be happy to look up names as per the pages quoted in "Branching Out."
