Betty's post below reminded me of a SC Pearson Connection I have that
married into my mother's Alverson Line. Interestingly my mother a nee
Alverson married my father, a Pearson, and her great grandfather (My GG
grandfather), Jesse C. Alverson born 4-8-1828 Greenville Co., SC (son of
Milton Alverson and Mary Anne Austin or Grogan?), married Harriet
Matilda Pearson b. 1838 and died 1872 in Greenville Co., SC. Jesse died
9-12-1900 in Greenville Co., SC. I have several more Alverson
generations for anyone that might be interested, however my focus here
is from what Pearson family did Harriet Matilda come from? We have been
able to locate a Sarah Pearson head of household in the 1850 Census. The
following is an excerpt taken from the book, "An Alverson Family
History" compiled by Barbara Alverson Morris 1980.
"In Aug. 1870 Jesse, Matilda, and children, Mary Emma, Frank, Ida, and
Charles ("Gus"), were living near Gantt Township. Matilda Pearson died
sometime after 1871, the birthplace of her last child, and according to
Mrs Lillie Alverson, Matilda is buried in an unmarked grave on one side
of Jesse at Washington Baptist Church Cemetery. There was a slab for a
marker, but when the church cleared that section, all the slabs were
removed. James Frank Alverson's death certificate lists his mother's
name as Matilda Pearson, and she is called Harriet on son Gus Alverson's
death record. Thus her full name must have been Harriet Matilda. I have
not been able to identify with certainty her parents, but she and Jesse
were living near a Sarah Pearson in 1860. The 1850 Census shows a
household headed by Sarah Pearson, age 40, and contain the following
persons: Mary, age 21, William, age 20, Harriet, age 18, Mourning, age
12, Jefferson, age 14, and James, age 2." Hope someone can connect or at
least give some advice or direction to search. Are Birth certificates
available in SC 1838? Problem is I don't have a locale for Harriet's
birth- just a date. Thanks for your time. Steve Pearson
