Subject: Re: SC Obits From: Deloresw Date: November 14, 1998 FYI and in response to Tanica Campbell: I have a book bought at a library book sale, "Some Cemetery Records of Abbeville County, South Carolina," copied by the WPA from tombstones in three cemeteries in Abbeville Co.: Melrose Cemetery, Episcopal Churchyard, and Long Canes Cemetery. In the front of the book is the following: "The WPA transcripts, made in the 1930s, are now in the South Caroliniana Library, University of SC, with whose kind permission this present condensed version is made available. The tombstone inscriptions, as given here, refer to persons who died between 1795 and 1936 and generally contain dates of birth and death and the names of immediate family members. While this work does not purport to cover all the cemeteries in Abbeville County, it does represent all of the records gathered by the WPA for this particular county." On page 2: A.H. WILLIS b. 4/22/1848 d. 8/30/1906; Japhos R. s A.H. & S.L. WILLIS, b. 8/25/1893, d. 8/15/1902; Fannie E. WILLIS w. W.R. WILSON, b. 8/28/1885, d. 6/3/1911; Ben S. WILLIS, b. 6/27/1891, d. 6/9/1925; Samuel A. WILLIS, b. 3/19/1862, d. 2/18/1917. Maybe your WILLIS is in the complete records.
