Subject: SC birth certificate #s From: Mtharin66 Date: October 31, 1998 Does anyone know if the numbers on birth certificates have any significance? My mother was adopted in 1937. I now have three different amended birth certificates on her, no original. One was never registered. Another has the state's file number on it. Vital statistics tell me this one is their's and they have no original. The third one has a volume number on it that I assume is from a Health Dept. somewhere where her birth was originally recorded. What I'm trying to figure out is, is it possible to locate a place or city of birth by the numbers? Any ideas? Thanks.
