For those who may be planning a spring trip to Columbia SC to do research at
the SC Dept. of Archives and History, please keep in mind that they will be
closed for two weeks while they make the move to a brand new facility.

I'd hate for anyone to travel a long distance and be disppointed not to be
able to use the Archives. Below is part of their the statement posted at
their web site: http://www.state.sc.us/scdah Please visit the site for
further information and updates.

The S.C. Department of Archives and History has announced it will close the
State Archives to the public April 20 - May 4, 1998. During that period,
the agency will move the S.C. Archives to its new home at the S.C. History
Center at 8301 Parklane Road in Columbia. The archives will reopen to the
public at the new facility on May 5.

The South Carolina History Center will officially open its doors to the
public May 23, 1998 with a day-long celebration and open house.
The History Center will be the new home of the S.C. Archives. The state
protects more than 330 years of historical government documents, recording
S.C. history from the founding of the colony to the twentieth century.
