Barbara,

Is it possible that some of your STOKES were SHOKES?

Just Curious,
Janet

Hi Claude,

Just saw your message listing SC research names. I'm
interested in the STOKEs
name. I have a Matilda _____b. 1800 who md. a Mr. Stokes
somewhere in SC.
She was first found in 1850 Pulaski Co. GA Census where she
had migrated along
with her grown children: Amanda, William Henry, John M.,
Dorcus Melissa and
Martha. I have no idea where in SC they came from or who in
the world was her
husband! Have been searching for 20 years.

I have information on the Stokes of SC from a booklet by J.
Lemacks Stokes
and excerpts from "Stokes, 1,000 Years," by Wm. Stokes which
given early
Stokes in England and information on the SC Stokes back
through NC on to VA
and the immigrant Christipher Stokes. I'm sure my Stokes
will tie in to this
line, but I gotta find out the name of Matilda's husband and
where they
originated in SC first! Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Barbara Shore
