Subject: Re: Saxe(a) Gotha? From: Patricia Childers Date: January 04, 2000 Hi Elaine! I thought I would try to help. Saxe Gotha (I've also seen SaxlGotha)was down near Lexington. It is an area of the upper Congaree Valley where Germans settled. Thomas Brown operated a famous store, Congarees Old Fort, which dates back to 1718 there. In 1748 there were approximately 200 Germans living there. It might help also for location to know that as the settlers filled up this area, they started to spill over into the Dutch Fork area; between the Saluda River and the Broad River. You probably already know but....it was also German and called Dutch Fork because they spoke the "low German" or Dutch. I hope this helps.
