Subject: Sarah Lake From: Susan Johanson Date: March 21, 1999 My John B. Clarke had fifteen year old Sarah Lake living in their household in the Anderson, SC 1850 census. Wasn't it the custom then to farm children out to another family for awhile to learn household chores or a trade? I know it was the case in New England where my husband's ancestors lived. I would love to know who this fifteen year old Sarah Lake was because John and Martha Clarke named their third son Elias Lake Clarke. I have wondered if Sarah was related to them or a family friend's child. Elias was my g-grandfather and the Lake name has come down my family to my father and sister as a middle name. Can anyone solve the mystery of this Sarah Lake who would have been born in c1835? Susan -- Susan C.
