Subject: Saluda Regiment - 1850 SC Census From: Brett Woods Date: February 20, 1999 I've been trying to research the Woodses of Abbeville County and have found what seems to be a curious item related to the SC 1850 Census Indexes. There seem to be two entries for Robert Woods: (1) he shows up on page 1454 of the Abbeville District; he also shows up on page 93 of the Abbeville District with an indication of a Saluda Regiment. The same hold true for Thomas Woods: (1) page 1507 of the Abbeville District; page 97 of the Abbeville District with the Saluda Regiment indication. I am aware of the Saluda being a river, but I cannot find any references anywhere on what the Saluda Regiment was, it's function, or why it was considered to merit a second census entry. Does anyone have any clues or suggestions as to the Saluda Regiment's function, or why someone would be counted in two places? Thanks for your help. Brett F.
