1840 to June 1, 1841; also from Oct. 6th to Dec. 5, 1841. In 1858 he was
living in that part of Ware made into Pierce County, and was elected the
first Clerk of Superior Court of Pierce County, serving 18581860. The 1860
census of Pierce County shows him living in Blackshear and a merchant, thus
making him one of the first to make his home there. After the war he moved
back to Ware County and bought the north half of lot of land 290, 8tth
district, a few miles southerly from Waycross; Ware County records show he
homesteaded this property Aug. 2, 1880.. Afterwards, he sold out and moved
to Callahan, Florida. A few years later he moved back to Georgia and made
his home- in the southern part of Charlton County near the St. Marys River
and the present town of St. George.

Basheba Hodges, widow of Willis A. Hodges. She was born in Georgia Jan. 10,
1845. They had one son, Spencer M. Rowell, born Aug. 15, 1891, died Sept.
21, 1950; his wife was named Katie C., maiden name unknown. David Rowell
died Nov. 27, 1902, and his widow (second wife) died Nov. 3, 1931. They
with the son, Spencer M. and his wife, were buried in Emmeus Church
Cemetery near St. George.
He was granted 160 acres of bounty land in Camden now Charlton Co., in
1853. In the Civil War he enlisted Sept. 29, 1861, in Co. "N", 26th
Regiment for six months, and was mustered out March 31, 1862. Later, on
Sept. 9, 18.3, he enlisted as a private in " G", 4th Georgia Cavalry.
Company roll shows he deserted Feb. 14,1864. (NOTE: This service is taken
From the published Confederate rosters, and could apply to another David
Rowell. Since David, the subject, had five children in 1861 it would seem
likely it was another David who enlisted, but no other David old enough has
been found.)****hahahahahaheheheheheheheeh. I jes aknowed he dint
desert.******
