ROWELL, JAMES A. 	1820-1914		WARE

James A. Rowell was born in Camden County, June 4, 1820, a son of James 
Rowell and grandson of John Rowell, R. S., of Ware County. The family was 
cut out of Camden into Wayne County by a change in county lines about 1825; 
territory now Brantley County. The subject grew up in Wayne and was married 
there in 1844 to Temperance (Tempy), a daughter of James Dowling and 
grand-daughter of Jabez Dowling (Vol. I). She was born Jan. 14, 1828, in 
Wayne County, and died about 1879. To them were born:

3. Jabez James	b. Sept. 28, 1850, m, Ist. Jane Antony; 2nd. Razda Ammons; 
3rd: Ellen McBee.
4. Sophia Jane	b. Dec,. 21, 1853, m. Daniel Wilkinson.
5. Jesse	b. June 30, 1854, m. MaryJane Moody.
6. Mary Elizabeth	b. Apr. 11, 1856, m. William Fiveash of Clinch Co.
7. Celestia Hester	b. June 9, 1858, m. Benj. Isaac Lyens.
8. John D.	b. May 18,1860, m. Drusilla Dowling.
9. Tempy Adeline	b. Aug. 23, 1863, m. Silas Johns.
10. Martha Matilda	b. Jan. 7, 1865, m. Aaron Dowling.
11. Frances Dorinda	b. Jan. 28, 1868, m. James Harris.
12. William Henry	b. June 24, 1870, m. Claudia Moody, dau. of David B.
13. Rachel Keziah	b. Apr.17, 1874, m. Jim Jacobs.

Mr. Rowell was 2nd Lieutenant, Camden County militia, 270th district, 
1819-25, He served in Capt. D. J. Miller's company of Ware County militia 
in the Indian War, He and his wife were members of the Primitive Baptist 
Church at Hickox.
Mr. Rowell married for his second wife, Miss Susan Drury of Camden County, 
By her three children were born, Two of them were twins, Mary and Martha, 
born Aug. 13, 1890. The third child by her was a son, Joseph Rowell, Mary 
married Osgood Drury, a cousin.
James Rowell died April, 1914, in his 94th year. He and his first wife were 
buried in the Dowling Cemetery near Hickox, in then Wayne but now Brantley 
County.

ROWELL, DAVID	1806-1847 	BROOKS

David Rowell was born April 5, 1806, a son of David Rowell, R.S., who was 
born Aug. 20, 1758. The older Rowell was living in 1790 in Georgetown 
District, Prince George's Parish, S. C. The family moved to Burke County, 
Georgia in the 1820s, and David, the subject, married Nov. 29, 1829, Mary 
McMullen, born 1812, daughter of William McMullen (Vol. III). By this 
marriage only one child was born, viz: Sarah, born Oct. 22, 1830, married 
Henry Allen. The first wife died April 20, 1832, in Lowndes county, and Mr. 
Rowell then married, Oct. 20, 1833, Flora Campbell, born 1805 in South 
Carolina. They had three children, viz:

2. Elizabeth	b. Sept. 2, 1834. m. (unknown).
3. Thomas	b. Dec. 4, 1836, died Jan. 1, 1838.
4. Mary	b. Aug. 11, 1839, m. (unknown).

The second wife was a daughter of Neil Campbell who after living a few 
years in Lowndes county, moved on to Leon
County, Fla., where he was living in 1830. Neil was a brother of Alexander 
Campbell (Vol.II).
David Rowell and his first wife moved to Lowndes county following their 
marriage, and are found living there in the 1830 Census, without any 
children. Also living there in 1830 was his brother, Henry Rowell.
Joining them there soon afterwards was the aged father, David Rowell, Sr. 
They all settled in the 12th district in the portion made into Brooks 
County in 1858. David, the subject, died in Lowndes county in 1847, and his 
estate was administered by his widow, Flora, and her father, Neil Campbell 
as administrators.
