If you are signed up for more than one South Carolina List I will apologize
up front from the duplications. Members of the SCROOTS list started sending
out request under the above subject format and as a result many of us have
experienced some outstandingly good fortune in locating information that has
aiding in our breaking through some proverbial brick walls. I am, therefore,
requesting any help that may be available in my search for the name of the
first wife of William RICHEY. The William that I am referring to is the son
of Robert J. RICHEY and Mary (Wier) STEWART. He was born in what was the Old
96th District in November 1787 and died in Greenwood County on August 04,
1819. He had the following four children by this UNKNOWN wife:

Jane Cowan RICHEY (b. abt. 1811) Mar. James Dunn
Robert Caldwell Richey (b. 2/13/1812) Mar. Nancy Elizabeth Hill
Polly Ann (Anna) Richey (b. 11/18, 1812) Mar. Thomas Hawthorn
Margaret D. Richey (b. ???) Died as a young woman

William's second and third wives were Jane COWAN and her sister Elizabeth
"Betsy" COWAN who were the daughters of Col. Isaac COWAN. Jane COWAN had two
children by William prior to her death and those children were listed in Col.
Isaac's will as his grandchildren. (no mention to the older children)

CLUES:

John WIER is listed in William's will as the guardian of two of the minor
children of his first marriage as "Anna" and Jane were already married.

"Anna" named her first child HARVEY A. and that is the first occurrence of
that name in either the HAWTHORN or RICHEY families.
