Hello S.C. researchers,
I just want you to know that I have enjoyed this group and hope that you
might help me find some of my Rogers and Dickerson ancestors. My mother who
looks over my shoulder from time to time says "all the bickering sounds just
like family". As with all family misunderstandings, it will pass.
Now, does anyone know any interesting information about Rev. James
Rogers who (from The News and Herald, Winnsboro, S.C June 18, 1901) was for
many years Principal of the Monticello Academy in its early existance. He
first married a Miss Boyd; they had one son, John. After her death he
married Miss Celia Davis, sister of Colonel John Davis; she left no
children. Rev. James Rogers was for many years pastor of the Presbyterian
Church near Kincaid's bridge, called the Brick Church. He died at White
Hall, where Mr. Thomas McGill now lives, about the year 1830. Colonel Hugh
Stevenson afterwards lived and died in the same house.
I would love to know more about the school, the house, Miss Boyd, the
church or his son John. I believe John is the father of my ancestor John
Cloud Rogers who was born in Ga. Can anyone help? Kathy
