Hello
It's the 5th of July here, but I think this is a good idea.

My 4th Great grandfather was James Heard, born in Lancaster, Pa c1745 and
moved with his family to Abbeville, South Carolina. He and his brothers
fought in the Revolutionary War:

James Herd: He served in the Militia during 1781 and 1783 under Capt John
Calhoun. He also provided bar iron and shoed horses for the Militia. Papers
3492

Armstrong Herd: Served as Captain and Private on horseback in the militia
1779-1780 under Capts William Freeman and Maj Pickens. Papers 3490

Charles Herd: served as a private and a lieutenant in the militia between
1779-1783.

George Herd: served in the militia under Capts John Calhoun and William
Freeman papers 3491

These men were cousins to Stephen Heard of Georgia and had other cousins
fighting in Virginia.
Several men in this family were blacksmiths and some of the services
rendered were shoeing horses. We believe this James Heard (Herd) may have
been married to Nancy Gordon, and any information on this family or marriage
would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,

Gaila Merrington

Researching: Heard, Foreman, Goodin, and possibly Gordon in South Carolina
until 1820
