Subject: Fwd: Re: Rev. War Vet., William Thompson From: Cliff Thompson Date: November 01, 1998 THIS IS A PRE-WRITTEN, SEMI-AUTOMATED REPLY FROM: SCRoots The South Carolina Genealogy Forum. Apparently you recently attempted to either send a message to the SCROOTS Genealogy Forum but it was rejected. Or you attempted to send a subscription change command which may have failed. If you were trying to post a message to the Forum which failed, it may be that the Forum server did not find you on the subscriber list. If you are not subscribed to the Forum -- just subscribe and resend your message. If you are already subscribed, then perhaps you sent the message to the wrong address. Messages for the Forum should be sent to [email protected] NOT [email protected] AND NOT [email protected] The address with "-request" is for subscription actions, not for message posting. Sometimes messages are rejected because the sender, or their Internet Service Provider, has slightly changed their email address or the configuration in their email program. For example, you may have subscribed when your email address was [email protected], but it may have changed to [email protected] dropping the "pop" from the address. Little changes like this cause the server to not recognize you as a subscriber. Or, you might have added some extra characters in the email address which are confusing the Forum server. If something like that is what happened, try to temporarily change your address back to what it was, and unsubscribe using the old address. Then, change the address back to the new version and resubscribe. This should make the server recognize you at the new address and stop sending mail to the old address. Another possible cause of problems is having HTML mode turned on in your email program or having "signatures" or "cards" attached to your messages. Try turning these features off before sending messages to the Forum servers. If you can't solve the problem using the methods described above, then send me an email message describing what is happening. If necessary, I can manually make the subscription changes for you. Be sure to tell me both your old and new email addresses so that I can manually make the changes. Personal attention such as this often takes a few days to take effect. Sometimes it may take longer. I apologize for any delay and thank you for your kind patience. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- TO SUBSCRIBE OR TO UNSUBSCRIBE from SCROOTS-L (mail mode) send a message to [email protected] (NOT to [email protected]) that contains in the body of the message either the command subscribe or the command unsubscribe (but not both) and no other text.
