I know there were plenty of Germans in the Orangeburgh District (Winton,
Lexington, Lewishburgh and Orange) and my Scots-Irish migrated from
Pennsylvania via Virginia or straight to South Carolina, to Edgefield,
Abbeville, and the old 96 District generally.(Those plus Laurens,
Greenville, Spartanburg, Union and Newberry). The earliest family I have to
my knowledge in South Carolina would be English Stock and they went to the
Camden District (Fairfield and Kershaw Counties).
This is my general experience and not a scholarly treatise.
regards,
Gaila
